Students who would like to first learn the language in Germany and then study at university need to apply for a so-called student applicant visa. This type of visa gives a student time to learn the language for a maximum period of 2 years and then the student can begin with his university studies. Once in university the visa will be changed into student visa.
For visa application you will need several documents:
(Conditional) admission from a German university
Please not that without an admission or conditional admission letter from a university in Germany, you will get only a language course visa. This is the wrong type of visa which can’t be extended from Germany. After the language course students must leave the country and apply again for a student visa from Mauritius. This is risky and time-consuming, you might lose one semester or find out you are not even eligible to study in Germany! Therefore make sure you apply with the full set of documents including the university admission letter so that you will receive the student applicant visa.
Block account confirmation showing 8640 EUR
To make sure each student has enough money for living expenses in Germany, we will open a bank account in Germany on the student name. We have a partner bank offering a very transparent, speedy and customer friendly service. On this bank account students need to transfer 8640 EUR plus 50 EUR account opening fees. The money will be blocked on the account and each month the student can take out 720 EUR to pay for living expenses. This is the official number published by the German government that a student should need per month for living expenses once he is in university. Please not that during the time of the language course the amount can be a bit higher if you decide to rent a single room.
Once the 8640 EUR arrived on the account in Germany, Bank will issue a block account confirmation for the visa application.
The block account has to be re-filled on a yearly basis.
Each student who is going to Germany needs to have a valid health insurance. We will book this insurance for you at an affordable price with a German insurance company. It is a health, accident and liability insurance which will cover the costs for medical treatment at doctors and hospitals. The fees for the insurance will be taken out of your block account monthly. Please note that medication is Germany is never paid fully by an insurance, if prescribed by the doctors the insurance will pay a part of the costs, if not prescribed patients need to pay the full amount. The insurance will also not cover any costs for treatments that arise from an injury or illness that occurred already before travelling to Germany.
The insurance company will issue a confirmation letter for the visa application.
